Frequently Asked Questions

Window Cleaning

Why should I clean my windows?

Unmaintained windows will eventually stay dirty permanently. Considering your home is most likely your most value asset you want to keep it nice. You wouldn't want to pay $25,000 to get all new windows when it would cost $250 to clean yearly. If you are looking to sell your home, window washing is rated the best return on investment when selling a home.

How do I get an estimate?

Call us and we would be more than happy to give you a price average for a comparable job to yours.  Also, before we begin your service we can add up your job with our price formula sheet and give you a written breakdown.  Any questions you might have can be addressed before we get started.

When you come to clean windows, will that include screens, tracks, and frames?

This needs to be worked out with the estimator prior to your scheduled appointment.

I love my home.  How is my property treated?

We take pride in our work and also treat our customers home as if it were our own.  We wear booties in your home and your home is left cleaner than when we arrived.  We really care about your home!

What do you use to clean windows?

We  always use a professional, environmentally friendly cleaning solution for the task at hand.  We also use a system known as the Water Fed Pole on the exterior which is a purified water system that eliminates the need for a squeegee.  As such, it also eliminates the chance of streaks or drips on the glass because the de-ionizing water dries spot free. We are able to reach up to  4 stories with this method so it also is safer because we eliminate the need for ladders.

Is it necessary for me to be at home during the window cleaning?

It is not always necessary for you to be home for the entire appointment. We can start on the interior window cleaning and you can lock up your home and leave while we continue on the exterior, as long as your screens pop out.  In cases of vacancies, your presence is optional but not a necessity, as long as access is provided.

Should I have my windows cleaned before selling my house?

Having your windows cleaned is one of the most cost-effective and high-return investments you can make on your home to get it ready to sell.

Can I have just have outside windows cleaned?

You can have just the outside windows leaned, but it is highly recommended to clean both the inside and outside windows, since it is difficult to tell which side of the glass dirt or smudges are on.  Cleaning both sides is the only way to ensure that you are getting the highest quality of cleaning.  Streaks or dirt on the other side of the glass can be very deceiving.  People are often amazed at how clean their windows are when they are done professionally.
One exception to cleaning only the outside windows would be recurring customers who have their windows cleaned several times per year.

Doesn't rain make my window dirty?

Rain doesn't make your windows dirty, dirt does.  The dust from landscapers, tree pollen, exhaust, and many other sources settles on your windows and rain drops causing the dirt to move around your windows leaving an obscured view after the rain dries.  The residue is now very visible because itís been spread over the window.  Clean windows remain clean after the rain because once the water dries there is nothing left behind to obscure your view.

Can you remove paint/varnish from my windows?

This does take longer and is not included in the normal estimate; this would be considered a construction clean up.

Pressure Washing

How often should I clean my home?

Major vinyl siding manufacturers recommend a thorough cleaning every 12 to 24 months. Removing buildups of mold, algae and oxidation help keep your siding at its best.

Will your cleaning damage the paint on trim or siding?

Because of our low pressure cleaning, damage is not possible.

Do I need to be at home?

Most customers are not at home when we clean their homes, but please remember to close all windows, clear your driveway, and put away fragile decorations.

My contractor said my siding and deck were zero maintenance.

Low maintenance yes, zero maintenance no. Anything left outside will be exposed to humidity and sun and will get dirty. Your car gets dirty sitting in your driveway and so does your house.

What is the dark staining on my siding?

Most likely it is mold. All mold needs to grow is moisture (humidity) and a food source... and it will grow anywhere.

Isn't mold a health problem?

Yes, mold and mildew around your home create unhealthy conditions for those with allergies and asthma. Pressure washing will remove mold from siding, trim, and concrete surfaces.

Are all power wash companies alike?

Anyone can purchase a pressure washer. Simply owning a pressure washer and advertising that you offer a service doesn't mean you can operate it and effectively. A pressure washer in the hands of an unskilled operator will do a great deal more harm than good.

How can you give me an accurate quote without seeing my house?

Experience from washing houses allows us to know what questions to ask to gain the information needed to give an accurate quote.

Gutter Cleaning

Why should I get my gutters cleaned?

Your gutters are designed to drain the water from you roof way from your house and foundation.  Full gutters and clogged downspouts can lead to roof and gutter damage or leaky basements.

How often should I get my gutters cleaned?

Most homeowners should get their gutters cleaned twice a year.  Once obviously after the leaves fall and once again in the spring after bud and seeds have fallen.  It takes a relatively small amount of debris to cover or clog a downspout.

Is it messy?

There is no getting around the fact that what is in your gutters, especially if it is wet, is messy.  We take the utmost care to make as little mess as possible and clean up any mess that might come from cleaning the gutters.  We also always take any debris that we get out of you gutters with us so that you don't have to deal with it after we are gone.

Do I need to be home for service?

No.  Most customers aren't.  If you are not at time of service we will leave an invoice that can paid by check or credit card.

Can the weather affect my service date?

Yes.  Heavy rain or overnight temperatures below freezing can cause a service date to be postponed.  In the event of this we will attempt to reach you BEFORE your scheduled time/date to make other arrangements.

Do I need to provide any equipment?

No.  We have all necessary equipment for the job.

What happens to all of the debris from the gutters?

We bag all debris, load it into our trucks, and remove it from the property for you.  We do not leave it at your curb for someone else to pick up.

Deck Cleaning, Sealing, and Staining

When is a good time to seal a deck?

Any time in the spring, summer, or fall when the temperature is at least 50 degrees.

How often should I clean and seal my deck?

That depends on surrounding conditions. Decks in the direct sunlight tend to fade and dry out; decks in humid and shady areas grow algae and fungus spores. Both problems require attention annually or biannually.

How many types of deck preservatives, sealers, and stains are available?

There are clear and tinted water sealers, semi-transparent stains, and solid stains. Available in both alkyd (oil) or acrylic (latex) formulas.

Can you wash and seal a deck in one day?

No. We allow at least 24 hours of dry time (depending on weather conditions) before stain is applied.

How long does stain last?

Depending on your deck's exposure to direct sunlight and precipitation elements, we recommend re-staining every 2-3 years.  Certain decks may require yearly maintenance.

What's the difference between clear sealers and colored stains?

Clear sealants are mainly water repellents that don't carry UV light protection. They have no trans-oxide pigments in their formulae that filter out damaging sun light. Colored stains carry all the benefits of deck protection, including a UV light inhibitor. (General rule: the more color, the more pigment, the more UV protection.)

Does power washing damage the wood?

Not when it is professionally done. Proper training and knowledge is a must when restoring a wood deck. Lots of home owners rent a machine and think it's that easy. Beware!! The damages and cuts into your deck which result from improper usage of a pressure washer may become permanent scars, and board replacement will become necessary.

Are the cleaning solutions that you use safe?

All of our products are 100% biodegradable and environmentally safe.

Does stripping the color off my deck do damage to the wood?

Not at all. When done professionally, a very small amount of dried-out dead fiber is removed, thus improving the quality of the wood.

Why does the color I chose look different on my deck than on the sample brochure?

Every deck will hold a color in its own unique way due to the porosity of the lumber you have. It also reflects the lightness or darkness of the specific kind of lumber. The sample swatches are just a reference, and may, in themselves, have variations because of printing inks.

How many coats of sealer do you apply?

Over-applying deck products can cause harmful effects. Stain that is applied too liberally may not dry evenly and lead to flashing (shiny dark areas.) All products are applied in different methods, but most are done with one full coat.

Roof Cleaning

What are those black streaks on my roof?

It is a living algae called "gloeocapsa magma."  It normally starts to appear on the north face of a building. It is more prevalent around trees and in a more humid climate.

Will the cleaning process hurt my plants?

No, we use 100% eco-friendly products that are safe around children, pets, plants, and landscaping, etc. We are one of the few companies that don't have to water down your vegetation or cover up your bushes in order to clean your roof. Our products are 100% safe for you and environment. No reason to go toxic. We clean green.

Can algae on my roof do damage?

Yes, the algae is eating the limestone in the shingle. The limestone in the shingle is used for weight to keep the shingle down in high winds. The black algae is also causing early granule loss on your roof. The granules on your roof help reflect UV rays from the sun.

Will cleaning my roof lower my cooling cost?

Yes, lighter color roofs will attract less heat, as much as 30 degrees compared to a black roof.

Do you use high pressure water to wash the roof?

No, we use about 50 pounds per square inch, which is equivalent to a very heavy down pour of rain.

Do you use the customer's water?

Yes, we do. But, if you are on a well or just don't want us to use it, please let us know at the time of the estimate.

Will my roof be clean right after the treatment?

Yes, when we leave your house, your roof will look great! Some companies rely on the rain to rinse off the remaining toxic chemicals from your roof. That process can take weeks, even months, for the black streaks to completely go away.

Holiday Lighting

How much notice do you need to hang lights on my house this season?

Feel free to contact us at any time; scheduling starts in September as we begin to fill the installation calendar. Advance notice of two weeks is preferred however we are able to schedule and complete an install within one week.

Do I need to be home for you to do the install?

It is not necessary for you to be home during the time of install, provided there is access to powered outdoor outlets. Our lighting crew will test the lights after putting them up to be certain all connections are securely fit.

Can you tell me when you are coming?

We will email you with a 2 to 3 day range when our crews will be out at your house and will also ask all returning clients to please have their lights outside and accessible for our installers. The 2 to 3 day time window allows us flexibility to account for inclement weather and scheduling conflicts.

How does the removal of my lights work?

Our goal is to have all customer's lights removed by January 10. An email will be sent notifying you of the approximate day we will be out to perform your removal. For first year customers we provide Rubbermaid bins at no charge in which we neatly organize your lights for you to store during the offseason.
